Shooting

Target shooting is a great experience for cadets of all ages. RAF Air Cadets use three different rifles: the No. 8, L98A2 Cadet GP Rifle and the L81A2 Cadet Target Rifle. Cadets begin by shooting at distances of 25 metres, and can advance to distances of up to 1,000 yards! In addition, Cadets can take part in shotgun shooting. Cadets have the opportunity to gain a range of marksmanship awards and badges, and compete in annual shooting competitions. Safety precautions are taken at all times, and strict regulations are followed to ensure that this remains both an enjoyable and safe experience for cadets. Adventure Training

Cadets can take part in a wide range of adventurous activities, both at Squadron and Wing level, and also at our two Adventure Training Centres - at Windermere in the Lake District and Fairbourne in coastal Wales. Rock climbing, abseiling, hill walking, mountain-biking, canoeing, high ropes and sailing are all par for the course. Adventure Training is an essential part of the Air Cadet's training syllabus and the place where team effort really matters - you'll build new friendships, and learn to rely on the other people you're with to get the job done. It also lets you show off your leadership qualities. If you're a member of staff, there are also fantastic opportunities for you to enjoy the outdoors,...

Cadets who demonstrate an aptitude for gliding are allowed a further 20% in order to achieve solo standard and gain their 'silver' wings. Some cadets will be selected to attend the VGS...

Squadrons are allocated a number of places each year at AEF; in addition AEF is normally included on the summer camp programme. With an RAF or RAFVR(T) pilot at the controls you will be introduced to the effects of the controls on the aircraft and, if you wish, you will usually have the opportunity to take the controls yourself. As...
